There was a state of exception in coburg’s good room. The stopover of the BR-radltour with bavarian minister president markus soder (CSU) at the head of the 2000 cyclists has been a real spectacle sunday afternoon.
In tow, the minister president had construction and transport minister hans reichhart (CSU) and environment minister thorsten glauber (freie wahler). The three top politicians had cycled from bad staffelstein up the itzgrund to the western city of coburg.
The thunderstorms and rain showers expected in the morning hours did not materialize. Markus soder also picked up on the announced weather capriciousness: "with so many nice people there can only be sunshine." The first stage on the BR cycling tour was described by soder simply as "super". Of course, you couldn’t just cycle past coburg like that, conceded soder. Coburg is finally one of the nicest cities in bavaria. The minister-president, who comes from nurnberg, said he had only been able to see for himself at the sambafest how much joie de vivre there is in this city.
"Today I ran a red light for the first time – in the presence of the police", joked transport minister hans reichhart. And environment minister glauber had only dared to call his "boss" overtaking to take a selfie with his prime minister on a bike. On the stage of the bayerischer rundfunk there was an informal atmosphere. For each of the many spectators who welcomed the cyclists, markus soder was approachable and visibly enjoyed the many onlookers with their cameras and cell phones.
"A warm welcome". Coburg’s mayor norbert tessmer (SPD), accompanied by his mayors, birgit weber (CSU) and thomas nowak (SPD), was delighted with the bicycle train that had arrived from the obermain. 2000 cyclists from all over the free state – and probably beyond – met on the castle square between the ehrenburg castle and the state theater. "The city of coburg has chosen the most beautiful playground also for tactical reasons", joked the oberburgermeister. The free state of bavaria will finally take over a large part of the costs for the renovation of the landestheater.

Cycling during the day – celebrating in the evening: that’s the motto of the BR cycling tour, which is taking place for the 30th time this year. The first time through the freestate. The stop of the 2000 cyclists in the city of coburg was also a good promotion for tourism in the whole coburg region. The bavarian radio had tasted the cyclists with drinks and bananas.
For the first time this year, the schutzengesellschaft coburg left its usual route during the procession to the town hall and was celebrated by the 2000 guests during the procession across the castle square.
